Review: Directorate S: The C.I.A. and America's Secret Wars in Afghanistan and Pakistan
Directorate S: The C.I.A. and America's Secret Wars in Afghanistan and Pakistan by Steve Coll My rating: 5 of 5 stars I picked this book from the new books shelf at the local library. This is unputdownable. The book spans the time before the war in Afghanistan to the machinations of the ISI and how the Afghan government was stuck between the American war against Al-Queda and the the lack of control in the region and borders between Pakistan and Afghanistan. It is fantastic reporting and Steve Coll has done a lot of research for this book to give us the realistic picture of a war fought a world away in a different culture and a tough situation. The war still lasts in it's 17th year. I did not know that helicopters with 3 senators and a Us Army General on board had to make emergency landings due to weather and low fuel . The senators had to walk till they were rescued by US Army Units. Must read if you are interested in the tough job the US arm
